The Continental Grand Prix tyre is a true classic that is ingrained in cycle racing history. In the late 80's it heralded the triumphant entry of the modern racing bike clincher and is today a synonym for quality and performance.
The latest incarnation is packed full of great features including a Poly X-breaker layer in the casing and a Black Chili compound that improves rolling resistance by 26% and provides 30% more grip than activated silica compounds. An impressive combination of puncture protection, easy running, durability and grip make sure that the Grand Prix stays as one of the best tyres on the market.
This revolutionary compound is based on the latest findings on polymer and other raw material research. For BlackChili Continental refine newly developed synthetic rubbers with natural rubber with the proven high-performance tread compound. They then use these rubbers with special nanometric carbon soot particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties for best uses for the intended tyre. BlackChili Compound reaches an unprecedented of performance.
Poly X Breaker
With the Poly X Breaker, Continental brings PKW know-how to the bicycle tyre segment: Polyester has been used successfully for years in car tyres and been tried and tested many times. The extremely resistant polyester fibre is woven tightly crosswise. In this way, a very high fabric density is reached which not only makes the Breaker more resistant to foreign objects but is also especially resistant to punctures. The rolling resistance is also not negatively affected by the Poly X Breaker.
